If plans change.

The cancellation terms in plain English, with worked examples. The short version: cancel more than a week out and you get everything back, and if we cancel for weather the choice between a refund and a new date is yours.

If you cancel.

When you cancelWhat you get back
More than 7 days before departure100% refund
3 to 7 days before50% refund
Less than 3 days beforeCredit note, valid 12 months
No-show, or less than 24 hoursNo refund, no credit

If we cancel, different rules apply, and they favour you. See below.

Worked examples

Your family day is on Saturday the 20th, and you paid R7,900.

  • Cancel on the 10th: ten days out. You get the full R7,900 back.
  • Cancel on the 15th: five days out. You get R3,950.
  • Cancel on the 18th: two days out. No refund, but a R7,900 credit note you can use on any charter for the next twelve months.
  • Don't arrive: nothing. The boat, the skipper and the crew were all committed to your day.

Refunds go back to the card you paid with and usually take three to five working days to appear.

If we cancel

Different rules apply, and they are in your favour.

Weather. You choose: a 100% refund, or we move you to another date. Not our choice, yours. That holds however close to departure the call is made.

Anything else on our side, whether a mechanical problem, a skipper unavailable or a harbour closure, is a 100% refund plus a 10% credit for the inconvenience. Our problem should not cost you money.

How the weather call works

We watch the forecast from about a week out and make the call 48 hours ahead wherever we can. That is deliberate: it gives you time to change plans rather than finding out in the harbour car park.

Occasionally the sea does something the forecast did not, and we call it on the morning. It is rarer than people expect, and the terms are identical.

The skipper has the final say. They are the person legally responsible for everyone aboard, and they have turned down days that looked perfectly fine from the shore.

More on how we decide in weather questions.

Moving a date instead

Often better than cancelling, and usually cheaper.

  • More than 7 days out: free. Tell us and we move it.
  • Closer in than that: phone us and we will see what the schedule allows. By then the skipper is rostered and the day is held, but there is often room to move.

Changing the type of charter is a cancellation and a fresh booking rather than a change, since the boat and the crew are usually different.

If your numbers change

Tell us and we will re-price. Charters are priced per boat, not per head, so a couple of people dropping out usually costs you nothing at all.

Going up is the one to flag early. Every vessel has a certified maximum we cannot exceed under any circumstances. A group that has outgrown its boat needs a different boat, not a squeeze.

Add-ons can be changed up to 24 hours before departure.

Credit notes

A credit note is valid for 12 months from the date it is issued, and can be used against any future booking with us. It is not transferable to someone else and cannot be cashed out.

Rentals are different

Everything above is for skippered charters. If you are hiring a vessel to skipper yourself, the rental terms are separate and stricter:

  • Cancel within 7 days: 50% fee
  • Cancel 8 to 14 days ahead: 25% fee
  • Full payment upfront to confirm
  • You must hold a valid skipper's licence with relevant experience

Fuel, launching and retrieval are excluded from rental rates. Talk to us directly for those bookings.
