Bookings
A booking is confirmed once payment clears. You'll get an email with your booking reference (ECM-YYYYMMDD-XXXX). Please bring it on the day.
Cancellation
Refunds depend on how far in advance you cancel:
- 7+ days out: 100% refund.
- 3 to 7 days out: 50% refund.
- Less than 3 days out: credit only (valid 12 months).
- Less than 24 hours / no-show: no refund.
- We cancel for weather: 100% refund or reschedule, your choice.
Weather
The skipper has the final call. Safety first: if conditions don't meet our threshold, the trip moves or refunds.
On board
Follow the skipper's instructions. Life jackets are provided and must be worn when asked. We reserve the right to refuse boarding to anyone visibly intoxicated or unsafe.
Liability
Charters are inherently outdoor activities. ECM is fully insured and SAMSA-registered, but you participate at your own risk. We're not liable for personal property loss, missed connections beyond our control, or injuries arising from failure to follow safety instructions.
Self-drive rentals
The terms above cover skippered charters. Hiring a vessel to skipper yourself is a separate arrangement on its own agreement, and the conditions differ materially:
- Payment. Full payment upfront to confirm.
- Cancellation. Within 7 days of the hire: 50% fee. 8 to 14 days ahead: 25% fee.
- Who may operate. Only the named renter, who must hold a valid skipper's licence for the category of vessel and water, with relevant experience.
- Towing. If the vessel is towed or driven anywhere, the driver must hold a licence valid for the vehicle-and-trailer combination.
- Liability. We insure the vessel, but the renter is responsible for any shortfall and for the excess, and assumes all risk for loss, damage or theft during the hire.
- Condition. The vessel is returned clean, fully fuelled and in the same condition. Fuel, launching and retrieval are excluded from the rate.
- Our right to cancel. We may cancel the hire on breach of terms, or where there is a real risk of damage, loss or negligence, including a forecast we are not prepared to send the vessel out in.
- Breakdown. The vessel is returned to us.
No variation of the rental terms is valid unless agreed in writing. See rentals for what is available and how to enquire.
