Overnight fishing charter

Twenty-four hours offshore, sleeping aboard, targeting marlin and the big pelagic fish. This is the longest and most demanding charter we run, and the one that asks the most of everyone on board.

What it's like

You leave in the afternoon and fish through the night and into the following day. The reason is simple: swordfish feed after dark, and the best billfish windows sit either side of first light. Neither is something a day charter can reach.

The boats we run this on are certified for night operations with a qualified skipper aboard, and go up to forty nautical miles offshore. That combination is what makes the charter possible at all.

Expect long quiet stretches. Twenty-four hours offshore is mostly waiting, punctuated by twenty minutes that justify the whole thing.

What you're targeting

Marlin, and the big pelagics: swordfish and tuna among them. Yellowfin off this coast run large, with fish over 100 kg landed here, and the deep water beyond Cape Point is where they hold, roughly 30 to 50 kilometres out.

Best months are October through June, when the tuna are on the grounds and the current is right.

On request. A 24-hour charter is shaped around the group, the season and the boat, so we quote it per enquiry rather than off a rate card.

• Your passport. We cross zones on this charter
• A fishing licence and offshore permit. Both are required, and we cross-check both before departure

• A sea-sickness regime for 24 hours and beyond, not a single tablet. If you are unsure how you handle offshore water, do a deep-sea day first

The boats

El Capitan: the 8.4 m Butt Cat 840, eight guests, certified Category B from St Helena Bay to Cape Infanta. El Padre: the 9.3 m Butt Cat 930XL, ten guests, the biggest fishing platform we run it on. El Pescador: the 7.5 m Magnum 25, six anglers, the dedicated deep-sea boat.

Before you book

This charter is not a good first fishing trip, and we will say so if you tell us it would be yours. Do a deep-sea day, see how you find eight hours offshore, and then book this.

If the weather turns

Called at least 48 hours ahead. A 24-hour offshore window needs a settled forecast, and we will not take the boat out on a marginal one. Full refund or a new date, whichever you want.
