— The day itself —

What you're booking.

Five hours of free-diving with a spear gun, with a boat and a spotter above you. This charter is for divers who already know what they are doing: we provide the platform and the safety cover, not the training.

What it's like

We run to ground that suits the conditions, put the flag up, and work it. You dive, the spotter watches, and the boat repositions as the drift takes you. Between dives you come back aboard, warm up and move on.

Visibility decides everything. A day with four metres of viz is a different charter to one with fifteen, and there is no forecast that tells you which you are getting until you are in the water.

This is an enquiry charter

No online booking on this one, for good reason. Spear days turn on swell, viz and permits, and we would rather quote you per date than sell you a fixed rate for conditions we cannot promise.

Tell us the date and how many divers. We will price it and tell you honestly whether that window looks workable.

What we provide

  • Skipper and surface spotter for five hours
  • Dive flag, and the boat positioned to your drift
  • Fuel and all vessel safety equipment
  • Ice for the catch

What you must bring

These are non-negotiable and we check them before you board:

  • Your own spear gun. We do not hire guns
  • Your dive licence
  • A valid recreational spear-fishing permit

Also: your wetsuit, fins and mask, and closed-toe deck shoes for the run out.

Without the licence and permit we cannot take you out. Not a policy preference; a legal one.

The boats

El Fresco: a 5.2 m inshore boat with the lowest freeboard and the easiest water entry. El Hombre and El Padre: 10-metre twin-hulled decks with the most room for gear and the driest ride on a long run.

Divers generally prefer the RIBs for how easy they are to get in and out of. The Magnum wins on a long run or a cold day.

If the weather turns

Called 48 hours ahead, though viz is the variable we cannot call that far out; expect an honest conversation on the morning if the swell has moved. If we cancel, full refund or a new date, your choice.

— Questions —
Can I hire a spear gun from you?

No. You bring your own gun, and we check your dive licence and recreational spear-fishing permit before you board. Without both we cannot take you out: that is a legal position, not a preference.

Do I need experience?

Yes. This charter provides the platform and the safety cover, not the training. You should be a competent free-diver already comfortable in open water.

Which boat should we take?

Divers generally prefer the lower decks. El Fresco sits lowest and is the easiest to climb back into; El Hombre and El Padre win on a long run or a cold day, with far more room for gear.
